RFSL debates during Pride Week
Even though Stockholm Pride has been a digital event, Pride Week has never the less caused increased media attention on LGBTQI issues. During the week, RFSL has participated in opinion articles about:
- a third legal gender,
- asylum rights, and
- competence improvement and efforts for an inclusive working life where nobody is discriminated against because of sexual orientation or gender identity.
As during previous years, in this year’s Stockholm Pride RFSL tries to illuminate and raise several different issues concerning LGBTQI people’s situation and rights in Sweden and internationally.
During Pride Week RFSL’s president Deidre Palacios och vice president Frank Berglund have drawn attention to that:
- Many countries are at present offering their citizens the opportunity to choose a gender other than male or female, and Sweden should follow suit. The opinion article was published in Svenska Dagbladet.
- The outcome of a future tightening of the Swedish asylum and migration policy may be that asylum rights for LGBTQI people become limited. The opinion article was published in Expressen.
- The fear of being discriminated against at work because of sexual orientation or gender identity is a present and extensive problem. Important competence risks being lost when people feel unsafe and unhappy at their workplace. The opinion article was published in cooperation with the labour union Vision in Aftonbladet.
