Individual support

We offer support through counseling on-site, telephone or mail. Counseling and other forms of support are free of charge and our staff is bound to secrecy. You can remain anonymous. All staff is employed and qualified and have experience in counseling LGBTQI people who are subject to violence.

RFSL offers:

  • an individual crisis counseling session or several processing counseling sessions
  • information about rights
  • follow-along and contact with healthcare and authorities
  • support when making a police report and in the event of a lawsuit
  • contact with complainant’s counsel
  • sheltered living at a secret location in Stockholm with two places
  • counseling in Swedish, English, and Spanish or with an interpreter.

Since the start, RFSL Support Service has met many LGBTQI people who have been exposed to crime. We are the most experienced in our field in Sweden and handle about 200 cases a year.

We have provided support for many people, but we also work with opinion-forming and making LGBTQI people’s exposedness to violence in close relationships, hate crimes, sexual violence and honor related violence visible.

RFSL Support Service has evolved into a knowledge center for issues concerning violence and LGBTQI, and we are often asked to participate in training, reference groups for governmental investigations and networks.

Advice and education for professionals

RFSL Support Service has a unique experience in meeting LGBTQI people who are subject to violence. Therefore, we also offer advice to, for example, social services, youth clinics, police, school counselors and women’s and crime victim support services. We offer lectures and training to organisations who want to increase their competency in interacting with LGBTQI people who have been subject to crime.
