PRESS: Succé för Barents Rainbow Festival & Conference i Piteå
Barents Rainbow Festival & Conference har
precis avslutats i Piteå.
Under fyra dagar träffades för första gången
48 delegater från bi- och homosexuellas organisationer i Barentsområdet.
Värdar för konferensen var RFSL-Piteå älvdal & norra Västerbotten i Sverige samt
LLH Finnmark i Norge.
Dessutom deltog RFSL-Luleå
& Norrbottens län i Sverige, LLH Troms och LLHNordland i Norge, Oulun SETA i Finland samt
Murmansk Public Organization "the Circle" och Archangelsk
Gay Information Pool i Ryssland.
Konferensen inleddes av svenska
riksdagsledamot Tasso Stafilidis,
själv homosexuell och ordförande för riksdagens homogrupp. Han talade om
tolerans, internationell solidaritet och om alla människors lika värde. Han
deltog också på ett torgmöte där regnbågsflaggorna, en internationell symbol
för homosexuell mångfald, vajade i vinden.
På konferensen hölls också föreläsningar om
bland annat homokultur som ettsätt att bygga broar,
situationen för ryska homosexuella och om den omfattande NOVA-rapporten
om norska homosexuellas livssituation.
Av NOVA-rapporten
framgår bland annat att hälsosituationen bland unga homosexuella i Norge är
betydligt sämre än bland heterosexuella. Bland annat är andelen självmord
högre.
Barents Rainbow Festival & Conference kräver:
att lokala, regionala och
nationella myndigheter tar ett ökat ansvar förde homosexuellas hälsosituation
i respektive land. Rådgivning, information och stöd bör ges såväl på telefon
som via särskilda mottagningar där specialistkompetens finns. Särskilt viktigt
är det att värna om de unga homosexuellas hälsosituation.
att myndigheterna i
respektive land stödjer de homosexuellas kulturellayttringar.
Homokultur i form av exempelvis dans, musik och teater är ett utmärkt sätt
att bekämpa fördomar i samhället.
att bi- och homsoxuellas organisationer i Barentsområdet ges
ekonomiskt stöd från samhället.
att massmedia skildrar bi-
och homosexualitet på ett korrekt sätt och att inte hiv/aids framställs som
en "gaysjukdom".
att myndigheterna stödjer
säkrare sex-information även till bi - och
homosexuella.
De åtta deltagande organisationerna på
Piteåkonferensen beslutade att årligen arrangera Barents Rainbow Festival
& Conference och att mötena ska rotera mellan Sverige, Finland, Norge och
Ryssland.
Det beslutades vidare att nästa Barents
Rainbow Festival & Conference ska hållas i Tromsö hösten 2000 med LLH Troms som arrangör och 2001
förläggs arrangemanget till Murmansk med Murmansk Regional Public Organization "the Circle"som värdar.

Piteå möjliggjordes tack vare stöd från Barentsekretariatet i Kirkenes, Piteå
kommun och Sånninggården.

Homo Culture at 1st Gay Barents
Conference Piteå
The historic 1st
Barents Conference attended by lesbian and gay activists from Russia, Sweden,
Norway, Finland - held in this northern Swedish city between August 26-29,
1999 ñ emphasized the use of homo culture in the battle for increased
visibility, stronger respect for human rights and greater co-operation
between homosexual groups in the Barents region.
Barents Conference
representatives were invited to present the results of the gathering at a
seminar at the 2nd World Conference on Lesbian & Gay Culture in Lisbon, 9-14, 2000. They were also invited to Stockholm for the Solidarity Evening for Russian Homosexuals
on October 9, '99 (Teater Lido).
Norway to host 1st "Nordic Light" Film Festival
On the sidelines of
the Barents conference itself, representatives of the Norwegian lesbian and
gay rights group, LLH Troms
and the International Lesbian and Gay Organization, ILGCN-Nordic
agreed to hold the 1st Nordic Light - the Nordic lesbian and gay film
festival, in Tromso, December 4- 5, 1999. (The
Nordic homo film festival earlier scheduled to take place in Tallinn-Tartu, Estonia in 1999 will take place in the spring of
2000and be the 2nd Nordic Light Festival - which is to rotate annuallybetween Nordic nations).
Representatives of
the Murmansk lesbian and gay organization, The Circle, and ILGCN-Nordic also agreed at the conference to host the
1st Minsk Lesbian & Gay cultural event in Minsk in September, 2000. (This pioneering event has
already received symoblic ecnomic
and moral support from the ILGCN at the 1st World
Con- ference on Lesbian & Gay Culture in
Stockholm, July, 1998.)
"Arco Nordica"
prize to RFSL-Piteå and LLH-Finnmark
Honoring Nordic organizations making outstanding
achievements over the past year in international homo cultural work, ILGCN-Nordic at the conference awarded the 1999 Arco Nordica (Nordic rainbow) prize to RFSL-Piteå
and LLH- Finnmark for
taking the inititive for the 1st Barents Conference
and for ensuring that the event was enriched with homo film, art,
photography, music, live cabaret and discussions on the importance of lesbian
and gay culture for "building bridges and opening doors."
Success for Barents Festival in Piteå
The Barents Rainbow
Festival & Conference in Pitea, Sweden, was the first time for gays and lesbians in the
Barents region, consisting of the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, to come together.
The conference
started on Friday the 27th of August when the Swedish member of Parliament, Tasso Stafilidis (the Left
Party), opened the conference.
There were also be speaches made by among others: Bill Schiller, Stockholm,
the Nordic homo cultural organization Tupilak,
about homoculture as a door opener, psychologist Svetlana Chtchipkova, Murmansk, about the view on homosexuality in Russia, and
members from LLH Finnmark
board about the Norwegian NOVA report about the gay and lesbian health
situation.
Also there were gay
and lesbian parties at Polstjarnan gay club with
Peter Fröberg, Stockholm, in the one-man-show Sexodus
Cabaret.
